Pumpkin Party

9 Oct

The DZR and Moose are in town this weekend, for the DZR’s birthday, and we painted pumpkins. (See the bday card I doodled here.) We didn’t end up carving them because they would end up rotting inside my house.

Re-Visions of Sugar Plums

3 Jul

I gutted this blog and am in the process of re-shaping it according to my *new re-vision*, save for a post that kind of sums up a lot of where I was at a few months ago (see below).

Most girls fantasize about their dream weddings and their perfect dresses. Not me. I’ve been scheming about the day I can start my wedding-related blog and how good my future tattoos will look peeping out of whatever outfit-thing I decide on. I’m guess you can say I’m not a traditional bride.

I’ve only been engaged a few short weeks, but everyone’s already gearing up for the wedding planning part. I admit that I was initially excited to read wedding blogs and register for popular wedding resource sites without that weird “jumping the gun,” guilty feeling. What started as lazy internet research suddenly turned into that familiar twinge of panic you feel when you’re at the crossroads of “procrastinate for later” and “dive in and panic.” A wedding is a big undertaking, even for a project-minded person like me.

The nice thing is, I’m not the first person to ever get married. In fact, a number of my friends are married or are in the process of planning their weddings, so there are a lot of great people in my life I can look to for help. Plus, my beyonce’ (rhymes with fiance’), is incredibly psyched to start this whole process because it means we won’t live 5 hours apart anymore. We’re still figuring out what that entails.

I’m really excited to share the things I’m going through as I/we embark on this mini-adventure. The DZR and I are both super lucky to have supportive families who are happy about our match. Our parents are great but let’s be real: as much as they like the two of us together, they believe they are thismuchcloser to maybe getting grand-babies one day. For now, they’ll have to settle for Moose, our 6 lb. Pomeranian/Canine-Human baby who jet-sets back and forth from Pittsburgh to Delaware.

The holiday weekend was full of rest and relaxation…and not a moment too soon. I went home to visit my parents, the DZR, my best friend, and her two daughters. Moose stayed in PGH and cuddled with all of my friends (that dog has no loyalty). I still can’t fully remember what day it is– I’ve been doing a lot of catching up on stuff.

Look how busy we are.

This period of my life is affectionately refered to as my “second adolescence” and it’s aptly named. My best friend and I hung out at her parents house and went to suburban restaurants (good Mexican food…yummmm). The DZR, who’s been my best guy friend since high school, has been helping me learn how to skateboard. We skated around his neighborhood like little kids. So fun!

Derby stuff is going well. Learning how to give and take hits is super fun. I’m not playing as much hockey as I would like but I am gearing up for more bike riding!

As I make my Summer travel plans, I realize that I’m probably not going to get out-of-town as much as I thought. Summer of $AVING MONEY. I need to invest in things like new roller skates, pads, dresses…but mostly paying off debt. There’s also some big plans for the Fall that I need to start considering NOW.

Our CSA is here! The first delivery had delicious bread, mushrooms, rhubarb, greens, and herbs. I love our CSA! I also trimmed back my personal herb garden and look at this:

Italian basil, “World” basil, lemon balm, peppermint, mint, dill…yum.

All of this came from my backyard and this was just what a “haircut” yielded for my plants! Apparently, I need to wait another month, at least, for peppers (*taps foot impatiently*) but the tomatoes are progressing nicely!
