I’m wrapping up a few books that I’ve had trouble finishing before I dive into my next stack of reading projects. I truly do enjoy reading for pleasure, but finding time to sit quietly with a book has been challenging. I admit that I watch my fair share of TV and movies, but I’m able to multitask when I do that, so it doesn’t make me feel guilty. With the holiday weekend ahead, I’m planning to read voraciously.
What I’m working through:
Stiff: The Curious Life of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach
I’m almost done with the last chapter. This was a book club selection that I really like. It covers many topics on the subject of human cadavers and I’ve learned more than I ever wanted to know. After listening to her talk on NPR, I’ve decided that I want to read more of her work.
Spent: Sex, Evolution, and Consumer Behavior by Geoffery Miller
This is another one my book club took on. I suggested this book after it was suggested to me by a friend who regards this authors work in high esteem. The book club generally found this text to be problematic (so problematic that some people did not finish it before our meeting– including me). It did foster interesting conversation so I guess it fulfilled its purpose.
My Life in a Jugular Vein by Ben Snakpit
I love journal comics but for some reason I have a hard time getting through this book. I picked it up over right before January, but I’m slow moving through it. It needs a new home away from my bedside table so I’m going to get to the end. I recently described this book as, “Alright, as journal comics go. It’s one of the guys from J-Church chronicling girls he’s held hands with and going on tour with The Observers.”
Portland Queer: Tales of the Rose City edited by Ariel Gore
One of my close friends gave me this book as part of a kick-ass xmas present pack from Microcosm. I started it on a whim one day but I wasn’t ready for a new book at that time. It’s also one that I’m really looking forward to so I want to dedicate my attention to it.
Artichoke Tales by Megan Kelso
Comics! I got a gift certificate to Fantagraphics and I picked this up. I really like it so far.
Vampire Academy: Shadow Kiss (#3) and Blood Promise (#4) by Richelle Mead
I read the first 2 books in this series along with a co-worker. She’s surpassed me in keeping up with the series, but I need to read #4 so I can (finally) return her copy of the book. I have to admit that I’m not fully thrilled with this series, but once I enter a new saga, I feel compelled to finish it. More vampire books (yawn).
I have to update my GoodReads.com books. Anyone interested in being friends on Good Reads?
